Bignay cure for UTI Essay Example
Bignay cure for UTI Essay Chapter 1 Problem and Its Background Introduction Among household pests, cockroaches are the most numerous and harmful. No household, whether in a city or in the farthest barrio, Is spared the creeping presence of these germ-ridden and foul-smelling brown monsters. Cockroaches carry on their slimy bodies bagful of germs and bacteria that could make any member of the family suffer various diseases. Ridding itself of cockroaches or at least reducing them to a minimum should be the goal of every household if it wants to spare itself from the high cost of medical care. At present, commercial insecticides used to kill cockroaches are very costly which households can hardly afford. Finding a less costly way of eliminating cockroaches would go a long way in helping households financially. Cockroach- (or simply roaches) are insects of the order Blattodea. This name derives from the Latin word for cockroach, blatta. Among the most well-known species are the American cockroach, Periplaneta mericana, which is about 30 mm (1 inch) long, the German cockroach, Blattella germanica, about 15 mm (1/2 inch) long, the Asian cockroach, Blattella asahinai, also about 15 mm (1/2 inch) in length, and the Oriental cockroach, Blatta orientals, about 25 mm (3/4 inch). Tropical cockroaches are often much bigger, and extinct cockroach relatives such as the Carboniferous Archimylacris and the Permian Apthoroblattina were several times as large as these. Cockroaches are generally considered pests; however, only about 30 species (less than 1%) infest urban habitats.

Bartleby the Scrivener Summary
Bartleby the Scrivener Summary Bartleby the Scrivener Summary NOTE! The below paper is just an example written by one of our staff writers. If you need an original summary of Bartleby the Scrivener Summary or a paper on a different topic, feel free to place your order. The book Bartleby, the Scrivener: A Story of Wall Street is a short story written by Herman Melville. The narrator is an elderly lawyer who is a successful businessman. He has two employees but expansion forces him to employ Bartleby, who is an efficient copyist but quiet and antisocial. He refuses to take orders from his employer and fellow employees. Bartleby never leaves the office and later his colleagues realize that he lives there. With time he restrains from any office work and when forced to leave the office, he refuses. The narrator decided to shift his business to a different place to avoid problems with him. Bartleby is arrested and taken to prison when he fails to comply with the new tenants. The story concludes with Bartleby refusing to eat at the prison and therefore, starves to death. The story focuses on three character types based upon the super ego Freudian philosophy, which is the id, ego and super ego. As reported by Freud, it is important to note that ego is repr esenting the basic mankind instinct; on the other side, super ego brings a representation of God and the id is a representation of compromise. Bartleby the Scrivener Characters Basically, the narrator of Bartleby is identified as an elderly lawyer overseeing his own office in New York City on Wall Street. In the story, the narrator has two scriveners who are working for him. In Bartleby, the Scrivener story they have been hired to write or copy documents for the court and offer examination to them, or perform the same in managing official capacities. From the story, the two scriveners, Turkey and Nippers, in most cases lose their job and at times can be ill tempered. Nippers is younger and experiencing a great challenge in delivering in the morning, while Turkey is slightly older and he is facing some challenges when it comes to doing his task in the evening. In handling other normal operation, the narrator ended up employing Ginger who was an errand boy since he could fetch scriveners. Since the narrator was facing some challenges in working with other scriveners, he ended up hiring Bartleby, whom he believed was calm. His expectation was that Bartleby was to calm down the others and in the process motivate them to put more effort in their jobs. Bartleby showed his great work by putting effort through the night and during the day and demonstrating serious commitment and diligence. He works solely by candlelight. However, one day, Bartleby, the Scrivener was ordered by the lawyer to search for a small document; there was a strange response from Bartleby and his response was that I wouldnââ¬â¢t prefer to. The answer was a great surprise to the lawyer since his scriveners were always in compliance with the request. He was astonished by his answer and requested Nippers to handle it, in the process; he decided to be quiet on Bartleby and requested Nippers to handle it. After some time, the lawyer then orders the rest of the staff and Bartleby to search for a large document, which was copied by Bartleby. Things were not different and Bartleby responded that he didnââ¬â¢t prefer doing it. This provoked a reaction and other scriveners were angry and confused in taking Bartlebyââ¬â¢s task. The lawyer is in this case confused with the response that Bartleby was able to offer. He gets angry about Bartlebyââ¬â¢s behavior starting to pity him, as he would not receive good treatment for his behavior. In the process, Turkey ended up becoming frustrated and angry and ended up shouting at him for not focusing on the document. Itââ¬â¢s very funny that the narrator supported Bartleby in the process but Bartleby still offered the same response that he was not going to do it. The Narrator The Narrator is a lawyer and owns a law firm in Wall Street where he works with four men as scriveners. He is an industrious, level-headed, and business-minded man. He deals with people well but Bartley becomes troublesome to him. Throughout the Bartleby, the Scrivener: A Story of Wall Street he shows sympathy towards Bartleby. Bartleby Summary Bartleby is a young man hired as a law copyist by the narrator. He is an excellent scrivener at the beginning but later he ââ¬Å"prefer not toâ⬠do anything instructed (Melville, 2014). The phrase used by Bartleby increasingly frustrates the lawyer and other employees. No one knows the cause of his isolation, non-conformity, and inability to work. People believe that it is his previous work at a dead-letter office that led to his unique character. Turkey Turkey is a fat, drunkard Englishman in his sixties. He works well in the morning but approaches the rebellious state in the afternoon. In the afternoon, he handles work recklessly and messes his columns. His clothes contain oil spills and smell like a restaurant. Nippers Nippers is a scrivener working for the lawyer. He is opposite to Turkey because he works well in the afternoon than in the morning. In the morning, he has stomach issues; therefore, he cannot work well, but in the afternoon, when the complication reduces, he works well. Ginger Nut Ginger Nut is a young boy who works as an office factotum for the lawyer. He is ambitious for he works for a dollar per week. He also works as an office boy for the employees who send him to purchase cakes. The new tenants and the Landlord The new tenants occupy the room previously rented by the narrator; this is the room where Bartleby decided to live. They come to seek help from the lawyer to make Bartleby leave the room. One of them threatens a scandal if they do not receive support from the narrator. The Grub-man The Grub-man is a turnkey who feeds prisoners; he receives bribery from the lawyer so that he can feed Bartleby well. He only provides quality food to those who can afford to pay something extra. Bartleby the Scrivener Themes Isolation Isolation is the central theme in Bartleby the Scrivener short story; it appears when Bartleby isolates himself from the employer and fellow employees (Gale, 2015). He does not receive orders from anyone and decides to do nothing with time; he prefers not to leave the building until he is arrested. Bartleby seems to have no family or friends. Communication failure Bartleby communicates efficiently with nobody. When the narrator asks him to revise the documents he copied, he responds with a phrase that frustrates everyone in the Herman Melvilleââ¬â¢s story. The phrase ââ¬Å"I would prefer not toâ⬠becomes a leitmotif throughout the story. Most of the characters are frustrated by Bartlebyââ¬â¢s phrase and therefore, no communication proceeds. Bartleby the Scrivener Analysis The setting of the Bartleby the Scrivener story is an integral financial center in the US where Melville grew up. The story revolves around Bartleby who answers peopleââ¬â¢s questions with ââ¬Å"I would prefer not toâ⬠. Through this Bartleby, the Scrivener: A Story of Wall Street short story, the writer is asking readers what makes people unique and independent? It is great to have the two qualities, and at times, people take it too far to a point where it starts to affect their lives (Arsic, 2007). It shows that conflict produces and reveals the character of a person. The story by Herman Melville focuses on three character types based upon Freudian philosophy, which is the id, ego and super ego. As reported by Freud, it is important to note that the ego is representing the basic mankind instinct; on the other side, super ego brings a representation of God and the id a representation of compromise. Basically, these are associated with the greater good and the employer, the i solated employee, the greater good and the rest of the workers. However, taking an overview of Herman Melville, the author of Bartleby the Scrivener, it is more of a general perception of hopelessness and despair due to his own individual experiences. In the story, following is considered to be a sad end: death in isolation and withdrawal from the community. References ArsiÃâ¡, B. (2007). Passive constitutions, or, 7 1/2 times Bartleby. Assessment - Essay Example 75% of participants in the study indicated they had experienced financial losses as a result of information security incidents (Richardson, 2003). Healthcare organizations are in an especially vulnerable position because of the sensitivity of the information stored on their systems. Accordingly, it is imperative that Healthcare Oganization A adopt and implement an intrusion detection system (IDS). Following a definition of IDS, this essay will argue the imperatives of our organization are adopting such a system. IDSs are similar to home burglar alarm systems, alerting neighbors, homeowners, and law enforcement that someone or something has broken through the security measures. ID techniques attempt to identify and isolate computer and network attacks by observing traffic logs or audit data. IDSs are based on the idea that an intruder can be detected through the examination of various elements. Such as, network traffic, packet elements, central processing unit use, input/output use, and file activities (Proctor, 2001). IDSs are powerful tools used to reduce and monitor computer attacks. The goal of ID is to positively identify all true attacks and negatively identify all non-attacks (Proctor, 2001). ... To fully protect an organization, it is necessary to audit the network on a regular basis for intrusion attempts. An intrusion is any set of actions that attempts to compromise the availability, integrity, or confidentiality of the system. To make an audit easier, a new category of software has emerged: the IDS (Proctor). ID is needed because firewalls cannot provide complete protection against intrusion. Experience teaches us never to rely on a single defensive line or technique. A firewall serves as an effective noise filter, stopping many attacks before they can enter an organization's networks. However, firewalls are vulnerable to errors in configuration and ambiguous or undefined security policies. They are also generally unable to protect against malicious mobile code, insider attacks, and unsecured modems. Firewalls rely on the existence of a central point through which traffic flows. With a growing trend toward geographically distributed networks with internal and external users, there is a greater chance for compromise. Therefore, the absence of central points for firewall monitoring purposes is a relevant concern. A computer system should provide confidentiality, integrity, availability, and assurance against DoS. However, due to increased connectivity (especially on the Internet) and the vast spectrum of financial possibilities that are opening up, more and more systems are subject to attack by intruders. These subversion attempts try to exploit flaws in the operating system as well as in application programs and have resulted in spectacular incidents like the Internet Worm incident of 1988 (Bandy, Money, Worstell, & Saita,

Maritime Logistics - Essay Example Therefore to not merely survive, but to grow throughout the crisis, K&X must develop mechanisms to benefit from opportunities that this environment has created. Prior to the crisis, K&X should have allocated resources to a crisis management plan that will maintain its current operations in a financially constricted environment with limited allocated of additional resources during the actual crisis. By conducting this preparation in more ordinary financial environments, K&X ensures that it will maintain relevance during challenging times while its industry peers are caught more unaware and must then engage in cost reduction measures to maintain their core business operations (Shim, Siegel & Dauber, 2008). Having already ensured its relevance and continuance in a challenging environment, K&X will then be poised to better recognize and exploit opportunities as they arise. This is particularly valuable as few new ideas, products, or processes are introduced to market in times of crisis. Most other organisations in the industry will be developing or implementing new services, allowing K&X a unique opportunity to fill that void (Griffin, 2008). In order to position itself favourable in a challenging environment, K&X must first develop and maintain a crisis management p... With this in mind, K&X must develop a crisis management plan as a living document that is continuously revised with the most currently available data, particularly when the industry begins to forecast the potential for an economic crisis. The management of the crisis will then involve application of the mechanisms developed and specified in the plan and the updated data will ensure that the organisation is responding to the environment as it actually exists (Kao, 2007). The exact measures of K&X for crisis management have been fully explored in Part II and are aimed at mitigating the effects of the crisis and maintaining continuity of operations. This will allow the organisation to remain fully crisis conscious, making its management of the situation part of its normal operations rather than as a separate issue that is address only after the disaster strikes (Drucker, 2008). Once implemented, the first stage of the K&X crisis management plan will evaluate the current business environment, specifically to determine potential areas of failure that may have a significant effect on core business operations (Drucker, 2008). This evaluation process is particularly important as failure during this phase may result in an irrelevant plan of action that may contribute to the collapse of the organisation. As such, the evaluation phase will require the heaviest commitment of time and resources to ensure that subsequent phases of the plan remain pertinent and relevant to the current environment. The goals of the evaluation must be a high relevance as this will ensure accuracy and precision in the later actions of K&X (Chesbrough, Vanhaverbeke & West, 2006). This evaluation process will include an assessment of

Causes Of The Great Depression Essay -- Great Depression History Econo
à à à à à In 1929 the stock market crashed, triggering the worst depression ever in U.S. history, which lasted for about a decade. During the 1920s, the unequal distribution of wealth and the stock market speculation combined to create an unstable economy by the end of the decade. The unequal distribution of the wealth had several outlets. Money was distributed between industry and agriculture within the U.S.; in social classes, between the rich and middle class; and lastly in world markets, between America and Europe. Due to the imbalance of the wealth, the economy became very unstable. The stock market crashed because of the excessive speculation in the 1920ââ¬â¢s, which made the stock market artificially high (Galbraith 175). The poor distribution of the wealth, excessive speculation, and the stock market crashes caused the U.S. economy to fail, signaling the start of the Great Depression. à à à à à The 1920ââ¬â¢s were a time when the American people and the economy were thriving. This period of time was called the ââ¬Å"Roaring Twentiesâ⬠. Unemployment dropped as low as 3 percent, prices held steady, and the gross national product climbed from $70 billion in 1922 to nearly $100 billion in1929 (EV 525). However, the prosperity of the 1920ââ¬â¢s was not shared evenly among the social classes in America. A study conducted by the Brookings Institution stated, ââ¬Å"78 percent of all American families had incomes of less than $3,000. Forty percent had family incomes of less than $1,500. Only 2.3 percent of the population enjoyed incomes of over $10,000. Sixty thousand American families held savings which amounted to the total held by the bottom 25 million families.â⬠(Goldston 26). The 40 percent of Americans at the lowest end of the economic scale received only 12 percent of the national income by 1929 (EV 549). This maldistribution of income b etween the rich and the middle class increased throughout the 1920ââ¬â¢s. A major reason for this large and growing gap between the upper class and the working class Americans was that the manufacturing output increased throughout this period. As the production costs fell, wages went up slowly, and prices for goods remained at a constant. The majority of the benefits created by increased productivity fell into the hands of corporate owners. The federal government also helped to make the growing gap between the upper and middle classes. President Calvin ... ...yers were available at any price (EV 549). à à à à à This speculation and the resulting stock market crash acted as a trigger to the already unstable U.S. economy. Due to the poor distribution of wealth, the economy of the 1920ââ¬â¢s was one very much dependent upon confidence. President Hoover stated, ââ¬Å"â⬠¦the crisis has been isolated to the stock market itself.â⬠(Docs Hoover). The market crash proved this confidence to be wrong. The rich stopped spending on luxury items, and the middle and lower classes stopped using credit in fear of losing their jobs and defaulting on their loans. As a result, industrial production fell by nine percent causing people to lose their jobs and default on loans (Galbraith 42). Industries started to fall apart around the automobile and radio industries. The rich refused to make loans to foreign countries for fear of going bankrupt. Foreigners stopped buying U.S. goods. Banks started to go under, stores closed up. President Hoover did not act in time to stop the count ry from going further into a depression (Docs Hoover). Unemployment had reached 13 million in 1932 (EV 549); the country went quickly downhill. The start of the Great Depression was setting in.
